Le Duc - Social Media as Means of Mitigation of Marginalization for Vietnamese Migrant Workers in Thailand

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of social media as a means by which undocumented Vietnamese migrant workers in Thailand employ to cope with the experience of marginalization. Marginalization was more intense during the Covid-19 pandemic in which Vietnamese migrants were not afforded the same benefits as Thai citizens. Thus, they turned to one another via social media for support materially and emotionally. The Vietnamese migrant workers demonstrate how social media can be effectively utilized to create a niche online in order to exchange and share their experiences freely without the various barriers presented by their circumstances.
