CFP for essays on Religion and AI in SE Asia

Heidi A Campbell (Texas A&M University-USA) and Claribel Low (Nanyang Technical University-Singapore) are putting together an edited book project on Southeast Asian perspectives on Religion and AI. This collection will bring together academics to reflect either on their research on religion and AI or their work with religious communities related to technology in the SE Asia context. The book proposal has been accepted for publication by the Asian Research Center for Religion and Social Communication, and the book will be open access.
We are looking for essay proposals that either (Part 1) summarize their research on AI and Religion in the Asian context, or (Part 2) reflects on how their specific religious contexts of study or practice offer important insights into responding or evaluating AI.
Essay proposals are due by Feb 28, 2026. They must include an (1) essay title, (2) an abstract of up to 300 words that describes your central claim/argument and what evidence/examples/research you will draw on, (3) a short bio statement of up to 50 words that includes details of your affiliation and position, and (4) whether your essay is aimed at part 1 or 2 of the book.
Selected proposal authors will be notified in March 2026 about their contribution, and will have till 1 June 2026 to submit their final essay. If you have any questions please reach out to Dr Heidi Campbell at heidic@tamu.edu
